Written by the longtime guidebook publsiher herself, we review Bradt's Peru and Bolivia Trekking Guide, an excellent resource for those planning to hike in the Andes.
Title: Peru and Bolivia: The Bradt Trekking Guide 8th Edition Intro: This is one of the few trekking guides available for one of the world’s most majestic hiking lands. The author is the famous publisher herself and has fine tuned the guide with over thirty years of experience. Highlights: -Detailed trail maps and descriptions of nearly every possible hike in Peru and Bolivia. -Information on guides, tour companies, equipment rental agencies, and hotels in off the beaten track locations and geared for specific hikes. -Written by an authority on the subject. -Lengthy introduction section with excellent details on health, ecotourism, volunteering, safety, and trip preparation. Negatives: -No photos. -Bolivia section is a bit short. -Restaurant and hotel information is very brief and pricing is vague. Authors: Hilary Bradt and Kathy Jarvis. Hilary Bradt began her series of guidebooks thirty years ago while writing a guide on these same destinations. She retraces her steps with fellow author Kathy Jarvis. Bradt lead treks throughout the Andes for 13 years and is about as knowledgeable as anyone on the subject of trekking here and her experience clearly shines. Other: Small inserts on festivals, oddities, general travel advice, noon-profit agencies, etc written by other writers make for an interesting read for those long hours on buses or breaks from your hike.
