South America TravelCuy Vs. Rat
» gidgelux - Cuy vs. rat: How would I know? While I'm not particularly squeamish about eating meat beyond the beef, pork and poultry of the U.S. (I live in France, land of frog legs, after all), it does make me a little nervous to delve into something that could be rat. So, how would I tell a cuy from a rat? I never had a guinea pig growing up and I imagine that stripped of its cute fur and roasted on a spit, it wouldn't look all that different from a big rat. Any suggestions?-- posted by gidgelux » Nicholas Gill - Cuy vs. rat: How would I know? In response to Cuy vs. rat: How would I know? posted by gidgelux:Well, the best way to tell the difference would be the head I guess. I hate to say it, but the skull of a guinea pig is just a bit cuter than that of a rat. Also, there should be an obvious indication that there was fur covering the animal. If you are still unsure, go by the price. If it's too cheap, take your chances elsewhere.
