Well, the best way to tell the difference would be the head I guess. I hate to say it, but the skull of a guinea pig is just a bit cuter than that of a rat. Also, there should be an obvious indication that there was fur covering the animal. If you are still unsure, go by the price. If it's too cheap, take your chances elsewhere.
