Good question Amanda. I think it is a combination of things. One is Venezuela's location right in the middle of Europe, North America, and South America. It is like a second Miami in that respect. The only other place with the same infrastructure in this area is Colombia, but tourists still are afraid to go there so the flights have yet to pick up (I expect that to change though).
Also, Caracas is the hub of low cost carrier Aeropostal and Venezuela has some of the lowest gas prices in the world, which no doubt come into affect here.
