Frommer's Brazil covers the Carnaval country's biggest destinations with detailed passages on hotels, restaurants, attractions in the Frommer's tradition.

Intro: A great, easy to read guide for getting around in Brazil’s major destinations, especially for the mid-to-upper level traveler.
Highlights:
-New destinations have been included that have been left out of previous editions of the guide such as Sao Luis in the north of the country, Lencois Maranhenses National Park, and many new updates on the Ecolodges and general travel information in the Amazon.
-Large sections onRio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. These chapters cover approximately 200 of the 500 pages in the book, giving you all the information you could want on dining, nightlife, hotels, and sightseeing in these major metropolises.
-Large introduction section common with most Frommer’s books with pages and pages of travel tips, trip planning advice, and how-to determine how your trip in Brazil is going to be.
-Long descriptions of cities, regions, hotels, and restaurants so you really can get a feel of where you will be going before you get there and a better of idea of where you are at while you are there.
-Best of itineraries and list to help narrow your search of where to travel in this ginormous country.
Negatives:
-The only picture in the entire book is on the cover.
-Few maps.
-Short on background information such as history, culture, wildlife, etc.
Authors: Author Shawn Blore is a transplanted Californian/Vancouverite who now lives in Rio and has worked on several Frommer’s titles, including previous editions of Frommer’s Brazil. Co-Author Alexandra de Vries is a longtime traveler to the country. Both authors bring lost of experience to the edition.

Hey, with all of these books being reviewd I thought now would be a good time to get a lively discussion going on everyone's favorite travel books. Be it guides, narratives, poetry, whatever. It doesn't even have to be about South America.

I think the Footprints Guides are generally good. A lot depends on the author, of course, so it's impossible to say, for example, that Lonely Planet is better or worse than Rough Guides. The trouble is, you don't know till you've used them.

I also like reading good fiction set in a destination, to try to get a feel for it, especially good crime fiction. Good crime writers have a gritty reality. And of course any travel narrative book. It's hard to recommend individual ones as it depends where you're going.
